Heinz Hoenig following the major surgery - Ultimately capable of uttering words once more
Annika Kärsten-Hoenig (39), wife of Heinz Hoenig, consistently visits him in the Berlin hospital where he is being treated. She updates on how her husband is progressing.
Miraculously, Heinz Hoenig is now making phone calls and has regained the ability to speak.
Annika Kärsten-Hoenig: "Every night, Heinz calls me on his cell phone to send his love and well wishes for my and our children. His concern for us goes a long way in comforting him, even during his current health struggles."
The hospital has garnered nothing but praise from Annika Kärsten-Hoenig: "We are astounded by the level of care and attention the doctors and nursing staff are providing Heinz. In this day and age, it's not common to see people treated like people and not just case numbers."
Whilst Annika tends to her husband, a friend ensures that their two sons' daily routines remain normal: "Considering the circumstances, I strive to maintain structure in our household for the boys and be there for Heinz."
Annika Kärsten-Hoenig is filled with gratitude for their collective decision to undergo a lifesaving operation: "We seized the opportunity and were handsomely rewarded. The doctors afforded us precious time. We can now focus on the future."
Once Heinz fully recovers from the esophagus operation and its implications, he'll need an aorta operation next.
