U.S. Commerce Secretary claims the U.S. is the superior option for Africa compared to Russia and China.

"We believe we're the top choice, we think we provide chances that align with Africa's principles of liberty and self-government, so we desire to be the companion you select to cooperate with," Secretary Raimondo revealed in an exclusive interview with CNN's Larry Madowo in Nairobi.

She spoke on the sidelines of the AmCham Business Summit after meeting Kenyan President William Ruto during her inaugural trip to Africa.

Anti-western sentiment

Akin to numerous other African countries, Kenya maintains close relationships with China, which funds initiatives and significant developments across the continent. For its part, Russia is gaining a foothold in the continent, leveraging anti-Western sentiment in certain nations to benefit from arms deals and natural resources.

Secretary Raimondo commented on the negativity towards western countries doling out advice on democracy and human rights. Many Africans favor dealing with China or Russia as they don't impose similar expectations. Raimondo countered this perception, stating that the US is coming to Africa "without any strings attached." She even brought over a dozen companies to the Nairobi summit to demonstrate her dedication.

"I just had a stellar meeting with President Ruto, where I told him: we have no intention of lecturing, we only want to team up, learn from you, and invest in your people and your nation," she added.
