Prosecutor Unharmed - Two teens murder a 40-year-old individual, then torch his body.
In Detmold Regional Court, two youths (18 and 19 years) have faced charges for manslaughter and attempted murder since the start of Monday morning.
The legal authorities accuse Ercan T. (18) and Wahid M. (19) of killing victim Osseini S. (40) through head blunt force trauma in a fight that occurred on November 18, 2023. To hide their gruesome crime, they allegedly set fire to the victim's dwelling.
An accelerant sprayed on the laminate floor
On the day following the incident, both teenagers were said to have visited the victim's dwelling early in the morning and sprayed the laminate floor with an accelerant. The entire abode was burning uncontrollably within a few moments. The remains of Osseini S. were eventually discovered in the destroyed building.
Due to the severe destruction of the remains, it took time for forensic doctors to identify him - they managed to do so through a DNA match from his son. S. was already dead prior to the fire, as per the forensic pathology report.
The prosecution alleges that the teenagers were aware of the risk of endangering other occupants of the multi-unit complex with their arson attack, thus they are charged with attempted murder.
19-year-old concedes guilt in a surprising turn of events
To the astonishment of the court, Wahid M. broke his silence on Monday morning. Contrary to the prosecution's assertion that it was just an accident, the young man indirectly admitted the charges through his lawyer's statement, Detlev Binder.
According to their attorney, both defendants had not contemplated the consequences of putting other residents of the building at risk with their arson attack.
The second defendant Ercan T. (18), on the other hand, had previously maintained that he had no involvement in the case. His lawyer, Hendrik Schnelle, left open the possibility that his client might speak up later on.
A neuropathologist appeared in court and testified that a subdural hematoma, a blood clot between the brain membranes, was the cause of S.'s death. This condition could only have been inflicted by intense force.
If S. had received prompt medical attention, he could have been saved, according to the neuropathological report.
The trial is ongoing.
