Downtown Frankfurt - Two people were detained during protests in Frankfurt.
On Saturday, two separate protests took place in Frankfurt's city center, resulting in a massive police presence. The first demonstration, organized by an alliance associated with the phrase "Political dialogue prior to European elections," even had participants sporting shirts and banners with "Querdenker" writings. At its peak, over 500 attendees were present, according to the police.
A counter-protest, known as "Defend democracy, combat right-wing forces," had roughly 250 participants, according to a police spokesperson. As these counter-protesters attempted to reach the other gathering, they encountered obstacles, said the police official. A brief altercation transpired.
Later in the evening, the counter-demonstrators managed to halt the other gathering and partially block it. Both groups then dispersed. The police reported a minimum of two temporary arrests, one for suspected assault due to a minor injury to a police officer.
