Shock over the German handball league team. - TV professional takes charge of sports sector.
It's not always the case, but it sometimes seems like SC DHfK Leipzig is a single-person operation. Karsten Günther (42), the Managing Director, is constantly involved in and around the Liqui Moly Handball Bundesliga team. This is about to change.
Television expert to become Leipzig's new sports director!
Günther is looking for assistance in the sports side of SC DHfK, and the person he's chosen is not a stranger to the club. Ex-professional Bastian Roscheck (33), currently a commentator for streaming platform Dyn, will be taking on the role.
Roscheck earns praise for his objective commentary during broadcasts, which has not been forgotten by Leipzig fans from his days as a player at the club where he was even capped by the national team. He later moved on to play in the Bundesliga for Hannover. As a pivot and defensive specialist, he is currently signed with third-division team Krefeld.
Roscheck also holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in business psychology. His thesis focussed on "Personality-related suitability of top athletes as successful managers". He will soon get the chance to put his knowledge into practice.
However, there is one small catch: with Leipzig's budget running dry for next season, Roscheck is unlikely to officially start until 2025 and will likely provide guidance during the interim period.
