Internal tribal takeover of sports betting
The Oneida Nation began accepting sports betting in July 2019 after the state Gaming Commission finalized sports betting rules. New York legalized sports betting in May 2018 after the Supreme Court struck down a federal law that limited sports betting to Nevada.
New York's Gaming Compact and its three northern tribes allow them to operate slot machines, table games and all other Class III games as defined by the Indian Gaming Regulation Act.
New York State is expanding its sports betting industry by welcoming commercial online sports betting to the state starting in January 2022. Tribal sportsbooks are still limited to live betting. Four commercial casinos in the North also offer retail sports betting.
Because the Oneida Nation had no experience with sports betting in 2019, the tribe partnered with Caesars Sportsbook. About five years later, the tribe took the TS Sports business in-house.
