Tupac murder suspect may have ordered prison witness killed: report

Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis, the man accused of killing superstar rapper Tupac Shakur, may have ordered it — or at least Approved - Killing a witness in the case in prison. Prosecutors made the shocking allegation in court documents filed Thursday, Dec. 28, first reported by KLAS-TV/Las Vegas.

According to new court documents, Davis told his son, Keith Davis Jr., in an Oct. 9 phone call, "People all over town are talking about the green light over here."

"In the defendant's world, a 'green light' is a license to kill," prosecutors said in the filing.

During the call, Davis asked if someone was "missing," according to prosecutors. Davis Jr. then responded: "He said it worked."

Shortly before the call, the state provided an assistant public defender with a list of prosecution witnesses, prosecutors said. That public defender wasn't even assigned to Davis' case and then handed the case over to the defendant and his son.

"This raised concerns to the point where the federal government intervened and provided at least [one witness] with resources so that he could change his residence," prosecutor documents state.

The shocking new development comes as Davis, 60, pleads to be released from jail pending trial. Earlier this month, public defenders asked that he be released on bail in the form of an anklet or a bond of up to $100.

Davis has pleaded not guilty to murder with a deadly weapon in the 1996 slaying of Shakur. Although he was not accused of pulling the trigger, he was accused of planning the crime, which is also defined as murder under Nevada law.

During the arraignment, Judge Teela Jones denied bail on the murder charge. Davis has been incarcerated in Las Vegas since September 29.

A hearing is scheduled for January 2. Prosecutors have previously said they would not seek the death penalty.
