Second malfunction within two days. - TUI's Boeing flight returns to Frankfurt.
A Boeing plane heading towards Gran Canaria encountered a fuel leak in its left wing - marking the second time this issue has occurred in just two days.
A chunk detached from the wing mid-flight
On Wednesday, the very same TUI Boeing plane (registration: D-ABMV) experienced difficulties while flying to Heraklion, Greece. An unexpected video by a planespotter caught the escape of kerosene from the left wing of the aircraft. Before the incident, the pilots had observed something detached from the same left wing, causing them to take immediate action.
To ensure the safety of the passengers, the pilots decided to halt their ascent at 4000 feet (1.22 kilometers above ground level) and steer the aircraft back. When it arrived, numerous firefighters and ambulances were already waiting at the airfield.
Upon landing safely after a flight time of only 30 minutes, airport officials inspected runway 18 where the TUI plane had taken off previously. They discovered traces of operating materials on the runway. As a result, the runway was momentarily closed.
The Boeing plane was taken away for further inspection. Surprisingly, it continued operations after a halt of only 15 hours. However, another issue arose with flight X3 2258 headed for Gran Canaria.
Once more, the plane faced issues shortly after take-off due to problems with the left wing. It appeared that the earlier leak hadn't been resolved.
