Bayern's coach tenure reaches 423 days. - Tuchel rides off on his bicycle.
Bayern Munich's season has concluded, but the players and staff celebrated anyway. On Sunday, the team gathered for a farewell lunch at the classy Käfer restaurant in Prinzregentenstraße, Munich.
The club subsequently released a video showing Thomas Tuchel (50), their coach, and his team being sent off by the sporting director, Max Eberl (50).
Interestingly, Kingsley Coman (27) arrived in a new Ferrari SUV Purosangue - valued at around 380,000 euros - while Tuchel opted for a more relaxed mode of transportation, riding his bike to the event. Tuchel lives close to the restaurant in the affluent Bogenhausen neighborhood and was the only guest without a vehicle.
Surprisingly, it was agreed with the outgoing coach prior to their final home game against Wolfsburg that the bosses would not attend the farewell party.
Stephan Lehmann (61), the stadium announcer and Bayern 1 host, mentioned a week before, "I'd like to say something briefly. We're not saying goodbye to our coaching team yet. The season is not over yet. We play Wolfsburg today and Hoffenheim next week. We want to finish second. That will be made up for." He mentioned this, apparently unaware of behind-the-scenes negotiations trying to persuade Tuchel to remain at the club.
The actual reason was that Bayern's top executives, Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund (46), were attempting to entice Tuchel to keep his position at the club past the end of the season. This was unexpected, considering that the CEO and other high-ranking officials had declared on February 21 that Tuchel's services would no longer be required. Unfortunately, the negotiations ultimately collapsed, and Tuchel decided to step down. He becomes the fifth of six coaches to leave the club (including Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Oliver Glasner, and Roger Schmidt, not to mention the recent departure of Roberto De Zerbi).
On the Whit Sunday season finale, sporting director Eberl rewarded Tuchel with a bouquet of flowers, a collage of photos featuring him, and a signed jersey. Likewise, Bouna Sarr (32), who would also be departing, received a similar gesture. However, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (34), who was dealing with a severe cold and won't have his contract extended following four years with the team, was absent from the farewell ceremony.
