Trump Faces 9,000 Dollar Fine in Hush Money Trial for Verbal Assaults
Trump is forbidden from making disparaging remarks about the judge, prosecutors, court workers, jurors, and their relatives. The fine from Merchan consists of 1000 dollars for each of the nine infractions. In his official statement, the judge ordered the former president to delete seven "offensive posts" from his personal service Truth Social and two posts from his campaign website by the following Tuesday afternoon (local time).
Judge Merchan warned: "The defendant is notified that the court will not tolerate continued intentional violations of his legal orders. Appropriate punishment could include imprisonment if required."
Merchan instituted the gag order at the close of March. The judge initially noted that Trump had made public statements that were "menacing, inflammatory, and critical." The judge extended the ban to derogatory comments about his own relatives and those of Attorney General Alvin Bragg later on.
The Republican Trump, who aspires to compete in the presidential election in November, frequently presents himself as a blameless target of a politically motivated justice system. Judge Merchan's daughter previously railed against Trump as she works for a consulting firm connected to President Joe Biden's Democratic Party.
The trial taking place in New York involves the concealment of a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. Trump is accused of misrepresenting business records to conceal this transaction. This is the initial criminal trial in history against a former American president.
The 77-year-old right-wing demagogue is also facing criminal charges in three additional cases. Two of these cases center around his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss to Biden retroactively, while the other matter pertains to his retention of classified government files at his private residence in Florida.
