I sense a positive vibe. - Trump expects to be found not guilty in the hush-money trial.
Coming up next are the closing statements and the verdict; however, before that, the court has mandated a one-week break.
The prosecution and defense's closing arguments are set for Tuesday, after which the jury's deliberation process will commence.
Trump walks into the final stretch with self-assurance
On Tuesday, Trump was positive about the situation. "I feel quite good. I think we did a terrific job on the case," he stated, showering praise on his legal squad.
In the case involving Trump and the hush money against him, the prosecution boasted a larger lineup of witnesses:
► 20 witnesses were put on the stand: Their testimonies were meant to corroborate the prosecution's claim that Trump had used money to silence former sexual encounters — including an alleged one with porn star Stormy Daniels (45) — during the 2016 election campaign. This, they argued, had an effect on the campaign and resulted in falsified business documents.
► Trump's notable defense attorneys only allowed two witnesses to testify. They'd recently petitioned for an immediate dismissal of the case, asserting that most of the accusations lacked concrete evidence or were not illegal.
The fierce defense attorneys targeted the prosecution's key witness, Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen (57), who had been convicted of multiple lies and even theft during the trial.
The last witness squares off in a defensive stance
The final witness, Cohen's former lawyer Robert Costello, was put under scrutiny during cross-examination on Wednesday. The prosecutors broadcast emails that revealed a plan to set up a "back door" for Cohen after Trump's sex scandals surfaced in 2018. Post-FBI raid on Cohen, Team Trump feared that he would become a federal informant against Trump.
Costello reassured Cohen that he was "very much appreciated" in the White House. "Sleep well," he concluded in the message, "You have joy in high places." The witness interpreted this as meaning "the president."
Trump's ex-lawyer tagged as a "jerk"
However, stressful communications later revealed that Costello had lost control of Trump's former "fixer." Cohen joined forces with the investigators. In an email, Costello termed him a "jerk" who was "messing with the most powerful man in the world."
After Costello's exit, the judge disbanded the "jury" until next Tuesday. Trump's critical week starts then.
