Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs becomes the NFL's highest paid tight end, according to his representatives.
"Once more into the fray, dear friend!" veteran player Kelce declared in a team video shared on X, the previous Twitter platform.
"I'm thrilled to be in Kansas City," Kelce stated. "It's an honor and a delight, and I can't wait to work hard for the next two years."
Kelce's representatives, Milk & Honey Sports, posted on X that the contract makes him the highest-paid tight end in the league.
The contract is worth $34.25 million and runs through 2027, as tracked by sports salary website Spotrac. The $17.125 million yearly average surpasses New York Giants tight end Darren Waller's previous standing as the most highly paid player in the position, with a $17 million annual salary, Spotrac reports.
Starting quarterback for the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, celebrated the news with a post: "I told you I'll never let him go! Congrats, buddy!"
CNN contacted Kelce's agent and manager for comments, but received no response.
The team confirmed the signing via a post: "We signed the finest tight end to ever play the game to a new contract."
This year has been momentous for Kelce, featuring his third career Super Bowl victory in February, his ninth career Pro-Bowl selection, and an attention-grabbing relationship with music sensation Taylor Swift.
After winning his third Super Bowl, Kelce and Swift took a trip to the Bahamas. During an exclusive interview with People magazine, the tight end expressed his happiness about his life.
"I've never been happier," he told the publication. "Some people say I'm a half-full or half-empty kind of guy, but I'm totally full right now."
