Protests take place. - Tranquil protest on Walpurgis Night held in Berlin-Wedding.
As May Day approaches, activists in Berlin-Wedding held a protest rally with the theme "Peace and Social Justice." Estimated by the police to have around 500 attendees, the rally started at Leopoldplatz and concluded at Gesundbrunnen. The organizers claimed that around 800 people joined the march at its peak, adding that the event was filled with good vibes. Leaving Gesundbrunnen, the group dispersed peacefully. However, the organizers complained about the conduct of some police officers at the end of the event, while police claimed the event went smoothly.
To handle the rally, around 3,000 police officers were deployed throughout the city on Walpurgis Night. Police stated that they received support from Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, and Bavaria.
In the evening, hundreds of individuals gathered for a women's left-wing demonstration called "Take Back the Night - Queer-Feminist Demonstration" intending to walk from Friedrichshain to Kreuzberg. In past years, the police were met with bottle-throwing incidents, and some officers were injured. The authorities predicted that this year might follow a similar pattern. They expected as many as 3,000 people to participate.
