The season comes to a close ahead of schedule. - Top handball player severely hurt.
### Injured handball player misses two games
A vital backcourt player will sit out the upcoming matches against Frisch Auf Göppingen (Wednesday, 8:30 p.m., live on Dyn) and THW Kiel (Sunday, 4:30 p.m., live on Dyn). The player has been struggling with his thigh and adductors and has been diagnosed with a severe pubalgia.
Additionally, loop player Arnar Freyr Arnarsson (due to a respiratory illness) and center Domagoj Pavlovic (who's recovering from an ankle surgery) are unavailable. Left winger David Mandic is also uncertain due to his ongoing muscular issues.
To avoid putting a specific timeline on the player's recovery, MT Melsungen hasn't disclosed the exact duration of his absence. In serious cases, pubalgia can mean being sidelined for anywhere from three to six months. Professional athletes might experience extended periods of inactivity due to this injury.
In the meantime, MT Melsungen's team members are hoping that the early break and upcoming vacation could potentially expedite the healing process. Thankfully, Jonsson's home country Iceland failed to make it to the Olympics in Paris, saving him from playing during this time.
