Did he kill the mother of his child (3)? - Tomorrow, the trial against renowned tennis player Zverev will commence.
Back in October 2023, the Berlin-Tiergarten District Court found Zverev guilty and fined him 450,000 euros (equivalent to 90 days of community service at 5,000 euros each). He initially contested this decision, so the trial will start this week without his physical presence. Patea, the mother of their daughter Mayla (3), will join the prosecution as a co-plaintiff. The court has scheduled ten trial days that'll run through July 19, 2024.
This alleged event is believed to have happened during an argument between Zverev and his ex-girlfriend Brenda in the early hours of May 21, 2020. He stands accused of physically abusing her.
Zverev spoke about the impending trial a few days ago, expressing faith in the German legal system and the truth: "I trust the German legal system and its ability to uncover the truth. I know what I did and what I didn't do, so I'll depend on that."
To prepare for the trial, Zverev's legal team commissioned Prof. Dr. Michael Tsokos, a prominent Berlin forensic pathologist, to examine the violence allegations. His statement on the matter reads: "Forensic evidence shows considerable discrepancies that can't reasonably be reconciled from a medical perspective. So, it's virtually impossible for the event to have transpired as the complainant describes."
Zverev and Patea met in 2019 and ended their relationship over a period of about eight months, shortly before the birth of their daughter. Despite their separation, they manage to co-parent Mayla, with Zverev covering child support payments.
On October 14, 2021 - roughly 18 months after the supposed incident - Patea filed charges against her ex-partner. This move comes shortly after public sightings of Zverev with his new partner, Sophia Thomalla (34).
