ZDF journalist Kaben covers a report. - Today, Kroos doesn't cause me to perspire heavily.
The Champions League Final 2022 in Paris sees Real Madrid defeat Liverpool 1:0, claiming the trophy. After the match, Toni Kroos (age 34) sits down for an interview with ZDF correspondent Nils Kaben (age 56). From the initial three questions, Kroos grows irritated, making it evident he's not impressed with them. The fourth question prompts him to explode: "Did you find it unusual that Real Madrid struggled?"
The 2014 World Cup winner can't contain his frustration: "Give me a break, you had 90 minutes to think of some decent questions and you end up with these two? Talk about crazy!" Kroos subsequently ends the interview. This encounter has become a milestone in television history.
Kaben: "I'll contemplate the questions during the game's second half."
Kaben: "No way! The way the contest unfolds significantly impacts the nature of the questions I can ask. However, I will consider my initial engagement with him and assess how to approach this conversation based on if it's with a victor or a loser. The emotions surrounding the event are crucial to keep in mind."
Kaben: "I'll make that determination during the game's second half."
Kaben: "Nope! At this point, I have 30 years of doing this job under my belt. The intense situations are behind me. Now it's just a pleasant moment where we meet again in similar circumstances two years later."
Kaben: "We've never explored this topic in great depth. There's a fantastic book by my Hamburg colleague Oliver Wurm that touches on this subject. Kroos's response was thoughtful and detailed."
*It's apparent Kaben won't fall prey to the interview trap with Kroos once more.
