"Dance" becomes a surprise - Today, Ekat performs a dance with her former partner.

Now, the dance pros are competing for the bet! Although the "Let's Dance" season has come to an end, the excitement isn't over yet. On Friday evening, nine pairs will perform 21 dances in three rounds during the "Profi Challenge" (RTL, 8:15 p.m.).

The atmosphere during preparations was emotional. Ekaterina told RTL, "Breaking up was tough. It wasn't easy. (...) We still loved each other."

Neither of them fully understood the root cause of their breakup. It wasn't until almost a decade later that they gained clarity. Ekaterina explained, "Each of us had a different reason in mind, and we hadn't really talked about it. Only now do we know what the other meant."

Ekaterina Leonova and Paul Lorenz (here in 2013 at the German Open Championships Mannheim) were a couple from 2008 to 2014

During training sessions and filming, Ekat and Paul could finally discuss their relationship. "I believe it was good that we finally spoke up and processed our relationship and breakup," shared Ekat.

The once romantic couple is now connected by a profound love, more like a sibling bond. Ekaterina commented, "I know that Paul will always be by my side, and I'll always be by his side."

2014: Paul Lorenz and Ekaterina Leonova were a couple in private - and danced together professionally

Paul is currently single, while his ex-partner has since married. Lorenz's wife has no issues with the two dancing together again. Ekat reassured, "There's no jealousy from her perspective. He has a fantastic wife, a great woman, who has also been a great support during training. Without her, I wouldn't have survived."

Why? If they were dancing with a new partner, there would be a defined boundary for criticism. However, with their former partner, every aspect would be scrutinized. Paul elaborated, "We're just straightforward. Whether we're right in the process is a whole other matter."

Even physical injuries were a consequence of the intense training. Ekaterina described, "I got some bruises and a bump on the head." Other than that, "I'm doing well."
