Accommodation industry - Tillmann Hahn shuts down his eatery in Kühlungsborn.
Top chef Tillmann Hahn, who formerly hosted the 2007 G8 summit in Heiligendamm, is shutting down his restaurant in Kühlungsborn after eleven years of operation. He wasn't exactly choosing to leave, as Hahn explains. The reason behind the closure was a dispute with the property owners. On May 31st, "Tillmann Hahn's Gasthaus" in Kühlungsborn will become a thing of the past. Hahn had initially hoped to reveal his plans immediately - either opening another restaurant, a gourmet store full of homemade goods, or a role in a luxury hotel - but the details are as yet undisclosed. Despite this uncertainty, relocation is not an option for him. "We feel more at home here than anywhere else," shared the 55-year-old.
There may have been scope to keep operating at the appealing seaside location, but the disagreements between Hahn and the landlords couldn't be resolved. His current establishment features five employees and seating for 48 guests inside and another 60 on the terrace near the shore. Hahn drew attention when he served guests at the G8 World Economic Summit in Heiligendamm in 2007, where his team prepared for 24 VIP attendees (eight leaders, their spouses, and eight chief negotiators). An impressive 240 workers were involved in the event.
Hahn has cooked for an array of famous figures, including ex-German President Richard von Weizsäcker, Jürgen Klinsmann, Herbert Grönemeyer, Deep Purple (Ian Gillian, Ian Paice, Bruce Payne), the German soccer team, Otto Waalkes, Udo Jürgens, and Rainer Calmund. While he enjoys a variety of international cuisines, he acknowledges the importance of regional food in the area he resides. Accordingly, his new venture is likely to follow the mantra: "local, fresh, and no pre-packaged convenience foods." This culinary ethos should persist in his upcoming kitchen, positioned between Bad Doberan and Rostock.
Hahn has worked with an array of notable personalities, including ex-German President Richard von Weizsäcker, soccer star Jürgen Klinsmann, singer-songwriter Herbert Grönemeyer, rock band Deep Purple (members Ian Gillian, Ian Paice, and Bruce Payne), the German soccer team, comedian-turned-presenter Otto Waalkes, singer Udo Jürgens, and author Rainer Calmund. Recognizing that people in this area appreciate local, fresh ingredients, he intends to keep this philosophy evident in his future kitchen based between Bad Doberan and Rostock.
