Tijuana, Mexico: Illegal fire in casino, suspected to be caused by incendiary bombs
Illegal casinos are everywhere - and Mexico is no exception, and its plan to ban slot machines in licensed casinos could cause even more problems. Underground casinos across the country are frequent crime scenes, with one now the focus of an arson and murder investigation.
The incident occurred in the tourist area of Tijuana, Baja California, an area that is particularly prone to violence. On the afternoon of November 22, a humble commercial establishment suspected of illegally operating a casino became the center of a fire.
The disaster left two people dead and another seriously injured. Firefighters covered the scene at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Graniso Street in Tijuana Beach and successfully contained the fire.
No clues, no evidence
Two lifeless bodies were found among the charred rubble of the site, but their identities remain unknown. According to witnesses, the tragedy may have been caused by two motorcyclists who allegedly threw Molotov cocktails at the building before scurrying away from the scene.

That's the only clue authorities have. The motorcycle reportedly drove by the building and threw something at it before fleeing. Moments later, the building turned into a ball of fire.
The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the fire. However, so far, investigators have no leads, no suspects and no additional information. They don't know if this was a targeted attack on people at the property or the property itself.
Tijuana’s problems continue
Tijuana continuously grapples with a complex and challenging criminal landscape characterized by factors such as drug trafficking, organized crime, and violence. Because the city is located on the U.S.-Mexico border, its strategic location and economic importance often make it a hotspot for illegal activity.
Drug cartels in particular have had a significant impact on the city's crime scene. This has led to territorial disputes, often leading to increased violence.
The city's proximity to the lucrative U.S. drug market has made it a hotspot for drug smuggling. Competition between rival cartels such as the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation Cartels has led to power struggles and violent confrontations.
Additionally, Tijuana faces problems related to organized crime involvement in activities such as extortion, kidnapping, and human trafficking. These criminals often exploit the vulnerability of the area, creating a climate of fear and insecurity among local residents.
