Faith or belief systems - Three potential leaders to follow Church President Jung.
Recently, approximately 29,000 individuals departed from the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN). The EKHN recently shared that they still had over 1.3 million members at the year's end in 2023. This represents a modest decrease in resignations when compared to the previous year. In 2022, a total of 31,000 individuals had exited the church. Approximately 1,700 new members were welcomed during that same period.
Concurrently, the potential successors to the current EKHN church president, Volker Jung, have been declared by the organization. Henriette Crüwell, Christiane Tietz, and Martin Mencke have been identified as the three individuals vying for the top position within the EKHN. The election will take place over a special synod in September this year.
Jung, aged 64, has led the EKHN as Church President since September 2008. Elections are held every six years, and unfortunately, Jung has made the decision not to run for re-election and will be retiring. The EKHN serves regions within Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate.
