Three Casino Workers Get Fired and Losing Their Licenses

Three casino employees at Crown Casino were dismissed due to their participation in unlawful gambling activities.

Diverse Australian news sources [English Link] state that the gaming conglomerate Crown, known for its negative media attention in the past, dismissed three casino dealers following a raid on two unauthorized casinos in Perth.

During the operation, officials confiscated around 128,000 AUD (around 77,636 EUR) in cash. The illegal gambling establishments also had various table games, chips, cards, and other gaming equipment [English Video]:

According to police investigations, the three dealers from Crown were working in these underground casinos. Authorities also identified a principal suspect, a former Crown employee.

The 35-year-old man is accused of actively recruiting other Crown employees for his illegal casinos. He has been charged with organizing illegal gambling and money laundering.

Individuals who participate in such activities also face penalties for violating gambling regulations. The cases are currently under review in court.

Crown's Continuous Scandals

Crown is the brand name of parent company Crown Resorts Limited, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. It operates casinos in Melbourne and Perth, along with other gaming venues and hotels. The company has a workforce of about 15,000 employees, including Crown Aspinalls in London.

In the past few years, Crown has constantly been in the news due to legal proceedings and violations. In July 2023, the company was charged with money laundering and terrorism financing. Australian authorities found 547 violations, resulting in a record fine of 450 million USD (approximately 417.5 million EUR).

Previously, the company has also faced hefty fines due to money laundering, violations, and fraud attempts. In 2020, Crown was even deemed unfit to receive another casino license, delaying the opening of the third casino in Barangaroo, Sydney.

Additional Raids Announced by Australian Authorities

Australian law enforcement has revealed that they are investigating additional establishments in their probes, with further raids expected. They understand that illegal casinos often reemerge after a certain time span.

Minister for Police and Gaming, Paul Papalia, stated, "The stricter the casino oversight and supervision, and the more organized crime is prevented in casinos, the more likely it is that people will try to evade it." – 9news

The Australian government has been working tirelessly to combat illegal and problematic gambling within the country. In August 2023, the self-exclusion register, BetStop, was introduced, allowing problem gamblers to exclude themselves from gambling.

There is also discussion about imposing a ban on online gambling advertising. It remains to be seen whether the government will reduce problematic gambling through further measures.

Following the raids, Crown's tarnished reputation in the news continues as authorities investigate additional suspected illegal casinos.

The recent dismissal of three casino workers from Crown, amidst allegations of their involvement in unauthorized gambling establishments, has further fueled the ongoing news about the company's scandals.
