Trial for an auto thief. - Thomas puts his life on the line for his vehicle.
Marco M., a criminal on the run, has finally been caught before the Erfurt District Court in Thuringia. His capture came after his car was found ready for filming following a car theft on November 15th. The prosecutor's office alleges that Marco used the stolen vehicle as a weapon in a serious robbery.
A Hero Emerges
Thomas V., the courageous owner of a 10-year-old car, played a key role in tracking down the culprit. Thomas recounts the harrowing experience: "Since my car doesn't start frequently, I had left the engine running while I took my daughter to the gymnasium. As I turned around, I saw someone entering my vehicle."
In a brave act, Thomas quickly jumped onto the hood of the car, using the windshield wipers and grooves to cling on as the thief sped away at 50 km/h. However, after around 150 meters, he had no choice but to let go, sustaining injuries to his finger, hands, and seat.
The Catch
A week later, a gas station in southern Thuringia captured surveillance footage of a robbery perpetrated by the driver of the stolen blue Yeti with a silver roof. This critical piece of evidence eventually led to Marco M.'s arrest.
The prosecutor's office is confident that Marco stole the vehicle for his personal use and also placed a different license plate on it to evade police detection. Furthermore, the indictment claims that he was driving without a valid driver's license and faces a minimum sentence of three years in prison.
The trial proceeds.
