Should you expand or part with it? - This week's gathering focuses on goalkeepers.

RB Leipzig has a goalkeeper dilemma on their hands. They currently have Peter Gulacsi (34, contract until 2025) and Janis Blaswich (33, contract until 2026), both of whom were their top goalkeepers this season. Additionally, they have acquired the talented Marten Vandevoort (22, Genk) in the summer.

Therefore, a meeting was organized at the club to decide which goalkeeper should be a part of their squad next season.

Gulacsi played as the main goalkeeper at the beginning of the season, but was replaced by Blaswich after he sustained an injury. However, Gulacsi returned stronger than ever after recovery and was a crucial part of Leipzig's successful run in the Bundesliga, where they conceded only 9 goals in 13 games, leading to their qualification for the Champions League.

Gulacsi came close to leaving the club during the winter season, as he received a lucrative offer from Nottingham Forest. Leipzig refused to sell him and Gulacsi's performances helped the club secure a fourth place finish.

Gulacsi's Demand for a Long-Term Deal

Gulacsi, who is now 34 years old, wants to have some career security. With the 2026 World Cup set to take place in the USA, he aims to participate as a goalkeeper. To achieve this, he needs a stable contract.

This is a pressing matter for him, as he is also concerned about his family's future.

Decision Time for Leipzig

It's now up to Leipzig to decide whether they'll extend Gulacsi's contract. This is a likely scenario, given that they've also extended the contracts of other ageing key players like Willi Orban, Kevin Kampl, and Yussuf Poulsen. Moreover, coach Marco Rose has seen firsthand the significant impact Gulacsi has had on the team.

As for the new signing, Marten Vandevoort, he's not likely to be loaned out, considering the investment Leipzig made in him.

And if Gulacsi continues to play for Leipzig, it could result in a difficult situation for Blaswich, who has expressed his interest in seeking new challenges.
