Prior to being demoted - Thioune shuffles caste outside the container
Düsseldorf coach Daniel Thioune plans some changes when his team faces Magdeburg in the 2nd division's last game of the season. With Düsseldorf's relegation certain and Magdeburg unable to alter their position, it's a great chance for the coaches to experiment.
Thioune announces, "We'll see changes. I've thought about it. We've got three games in eight days, so not much rest between them. I want to keep some players on form while giving others more game time."
Two players won't feature - Jamil Siebert (22) is injured, and Emma Iyoha (26) is suspended with a yellow card. Thioune confirms, "Nicolas Gavory will play in Siebert's place - it's already confirmed."
Thioune also discusses keeper Florian Kastenmeier's role. He's been under a bit of stress and Thioune says, "Florian seemed less tense in training. I'm trying out everything again now." By "everything," he means Karol Niemczycki, who will replace Kastenmeier. Thioune also mentions, "It wasn't an easy situation for him when I decided not to make changes in the DFB Cup."
Thioune had earlier promised Niemczycki he'd play in the competition, but the keeper only got his chance in the first three rounds. From the quarter-final at St. Pauli, however, Kastenmeier was back and helped secure victory in the 6:5 penalty shoot-out.
As compensation, Thioune will now let Niemczycki make his league debut. He says, "Karol accepted the decision in front of St. Pauli, but was very unhappy. He handled the situation very respectfully."
Kastenmeier won't be affected. Thioune explains, "A lot can happen in a relegation play-off. Karol hasn't played for months. That's why I'll let him play on Sunday. Florian has some aches and pains. I want to rest him against Magdeburg."
