Thief suspected of stealing Elvis Presley jacket from casino caught by Florida police

A 50-year-old man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly stealing a jacket that once belonged to Elvis Presley from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino last year.

Christopher Owen, 50, of Pompano Beach, Florida, was charged Saturday with grand larceny. Days later, he was apparently released from a local jail and his case was handed over to local prosecutors.

The theft occurred on February 14, 2023, at the Hollywood Casino in Florida.

Women support

Owen is said to have stolen the jacket and given it to an unknown accomplice. The two then fled the scene. No charges were apparently filed against the woman.

The jacket was valued at $11,670, according to police. It's unclear whether the casino has recovered the jacket, Miami TV station WPLG reported.

When Elvis' jacket was stolen, it was on a mannequin but the auditorium was cordoned off.

Tribal police reviewed surveillance video from the casino that showed Irving taking the expensive item, Miami station WTVJ reported.

Police also determined that Owen was at the casino showing his driver's license to obtain cash at the time of the theft. This made it easier for police to identify him as a suspect.

Additionally, an officer recognized Owen from a previous encounter.

The Elvis Presley jacket is just one rock and roll artifact on display at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

The former King of Rock 'n' Roll's clothing is highly sought after by collectors.

Jacket priced at $160,000

Last summer in UK a custom leather and mink coat worn by Elvis Presley was auctioned for £128. That's about $160,000.

The four-foot-long garment was sold to an American collector of Henry Aldridge & Son in Devizes, Wiltshire.

The auction house said the coat was given by Presley to his fiancée's brother, Ginger Alden.

In the years after his death in 1977, the coat was auctioned off at an event at Presley's former home in Memphis, Tennessee (known as Graceland).

To me it embodies the glamor of 1970s Vegas - Elvis in a mink coat," auctioneer Andrew Aldridge told the BBC.

In August, Riley Keough, 34, the eldest of Elvis Presley's four grandchildren, was named the successor to her mother, Lisa Marie Presley (Lisa Marie Presley) Sole Executor of the Estate.

Priscilla Presley married Elvis in 1967. They divorced in 1973.

Keough became the new owner of Graceland last year. As an actress and model, she appears in the Amazon series "Daisy Jones and the Six."
