As per the official announcement, the largest witches' broom in the world is being constructed on the southern border of the Harz Mountains, with a planned height of approximately 70 meters. This unique-shaped observation tower will provide a birds-eye view of the Harz forests, meadows, and mountains stretching up to the Wurmberg and the Brocken.
In order to herald the beginning of the construction of the steel structure in Rothesütte (Nordhausen district), the first piece of the elevator shaft was put in place using a crane on Tuesday.
The Harz Witches' Broom is set to serve as the focal point of the proposed "Harz Witches' Kingdom." This amusing amusement park is designed to entertain both young and old. In addition to the witch-inspired rides, an exhibition on witches is also planned. The new observation tower in Rothesütte is not just a hiking destination, assures Economics Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee (SPD), but a whole tourism experience that could attract more visitors to the legendary Harz Mountains.
The entire project is scheduled for completion next year. By then, around 2560 steel parts would have been installed and over 22,300 bolts used to build the 452-ton steel structure. Due to increased costs in the construction process, the investment amount is now predicted to reach 11.3 million euros. Tiefensee further announced an additional tourism funding of 3.9 million euros for the "Harz Witches' Kingdom." This brings the total investment to 10.1 million euros.
