Be cautious, Doge! - The well-known canine of the internet has passed away.
Internet sensation Kabosu, the dog that inspired the iconic "Doge meme," has passed away at just 18 years old. His owner, Atsuko Sato, shared the tragic news. Kabosu developed leukemia two years ago and is now sadly gone.
To commemorate the beloved Shiba-Inu, a farewell party is planned for him in a city park in Narita, Japan, on Sunday. Sato broke the news on her blog.
More than just a pretty dog
Kabosu shot to fame on platforms like Tumblr and Reddit during the 2010s. His claim to fame came from the notorious "Doge meme," featuring a photo of the pooch accompanied by clever captions written in broken English. This unique style made the dog an internet sensation.
These captions generally started with "such," "much," "many," and "very" and were meant to express Kabosu's thoughts, such as "such wow," "much fun," "very skilled," "so amaze."
Kabosu and Dogecoin
Kabosu was more than just an internet mascot; he was also the face of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. His viral meme image inspired the creation of Dogecoin (DOGE) in 2013, initially seen as a satirical currency. However, when billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced his support for the crypto, it quickly received global recognition. Dogecoin is now widely recognized as a legitimate payment method, with companies like Tesla accepting it. There are currently 141,515 billion Dogecoins in circulation.
So, farewell to Kabosu - the adorable, famous, and beloved Shiba-Inu.
