Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Vitali Klitschko are former world heavyweight boxing champions. - The upcoming date for Kabayel's boxing world championship match.
After an astounding win against Frank Sanchez, resulting in a TKO in the 7th round, Agit Kabayel now stands as the first German boxer in over two decades to compete for a world championship in boxing's top league. The WBC declared their fight with the Cuban as the final elimination bout before the event.
Being the champion, Kabayel is now the compulsory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk, whose historic victory secured him the title of unifying world champion from all the prominent boxing associations since Lennox Lewis in 1999. The championship night saw Usyk edging Sunday's contest against Tyson Fury.
Notable heavyweights such as George Foreman, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson, and Vitali Klitschko have previously held the WBC belt. Aiming to add his name to the list, Kabayel longs to become the first German heavyweight world champion since Max Schmeling in 1930.
When Kabayel's world title shot could happen
An already contracted rematch is set between Fury and Usyk, slated to happen in October or November this year. If Usyk manages to win the second bout, Kabayel's shot at the world championship may occur in the spring of 2025. Despite the wait, Kabayel will need to remain patient until his opportunity arrives.
