Cornelia planned to attend the music group rehearsal

At a glance: Cornelia Hümpfer's body was discovered with bloodstains in a ditch near Kolitzheim (Schweinfurt district) on April 20, 1978. She had informed acquaintances that she was going to the rehearsal of her church music group "Band of Jericho" in Schweinfurt.

In reality, she might have met her lover Tommy M. - who is alleged to have then killed her with 14 stab wounds to the back and neck.

Witnesses spotted a Fiat 124

Tommy M. had already been questioned by the police five days after the murder. He was driving a Fiat 124 with green US troop license plates, as witnesses saw it near the crime scene. The floor mats in his car had square patterns that matched traces on the murder victim's attire. However, the evidence at the time was insufficient for indictment.

Only now have DNA analyses offered new discoveries. Sperm traces from Tommy M. were found on Cornelia's body. Additionally, his former wife testified following their divorce that Tommy M. had confessed to the murder. Cornelia had been pregnant and had threatened to tell his wife.
