Toasts in Hanover - The two world champions will remain until 2026.
Renars Uscins (age 22) and Justus Fischer (age 21) have both inked contracts with the team until 2026.
These young athletes have made impressive strides at the club and with the senior national team. They won gold in the World Championships with the juniors in 2023, contributing to their rise alongside national coach Alfred Gislason (age 64). Uscins emerged as a standout during the European Championships in 2024, securing the position of top left-hander on the team. He also shone in the Olympic qualifiers, helping to bring the German team to Paris. Uscins was awarded "Man of the Match" three times during the three games.
The sporting director Sven-Sören Christophersen (age 39) proudly commented on their decision, stating, "It's a great honor to have Justus and Renars choose to stay with us in Hanover. Both have been performing at a high level recently, both on our team and with the German national team. They are the contemporary faces of handball, and it delights us to have them with us."
Christophersen, along with coach Christian Prokop (age 45), has embraced a similar philosophy as Füchse Berlin, who have invested in youth and German talent. Their dedication to cultivating young talent is evident in their roster, which includes five U21 world champions (Lichtlein, Beneke, Langhoff, Ludwig, and Freihöfer) who have agreed to remain with the club long-term.
Prokop concludes, "We're thrilled that Justus and Renars are sticking with our club. They've developed into top performers and future German national team players due to favorable conditions. I'm not the least bit doubtful that their importance will grow even more in the future. This lengthening of their contracts serves as a strong sign of our ambition and our big plans. Not just young players, but also we as a club can develop and improve in a stable manner."
Fischer has been part of Hannover's youth system since 2017, while Uscins joined the team after experiencing the sports school of SC Magdeburg, Bergischer HC (2021), and moving to Recken in 2022.
For Justus Fischer, the sense of home played a significant role in his decision: "It means an immense amount to me to continue playing for the club at which I grew up. The emotional connection I feel to home games: I can't even begin to describe how much it means to me." And for Uscins, the positive development and the potential of the club persuaded him: "It was a no-brainer for me to continue with the extension."
