Billie Eilish has released a new album. - The track is inspired by "Chihiro's Adventure in Enchanted Realm"
There's a specific track that brings up nostalgic emotions - it's the third song titled "Chihiro." This song references the acclaimed Japanese animated film "Chihiro's Journey to Magic Land," a movie that's been watched by most children.
The premise of the movie revolves around a 10-year-old girl named Chihiro, who's determined to get back her parents who were transformed into pigs. Alone for the first time in her life, she has to embark on this journey.
The link between the song and the film? Billie Eilish, a 22-year-old singer, sings about the feeling of being alone, quite different from Chihiro's situation. Instead of losing her parents, she experienced losing a relationship.
But Billie hasn't confessed whether the song is based on the animé or not. However, besides the song title, the similarities between the two are hard to miss. It's about going through a perplexing journey, finding strength from what seems negative, and eventually understanding the value of what's lost.
Similar to Chihiro, she wishes for her parents to disappear in the lyrics, only to miss them desperately later on and ultimately gets them back with a plethora of experiences. At the end of the song, Eilish is not as reflective as Chihiro at the end of the movie, but she's had an equally intense emotional journey.
The song features Japanese melodies and transports you into a dreamlike state. Additionally, the other ten tunes on the album, which she created with her brother Finneas O'Connell (26), revolve around love, loss, desired or undesired freedom, missed chances, and stepping out of the hamster wheel.
