The captain had to depart sooner than expected. - The status of the Schonlau calf is being updated.
The HSV captain left the dressing room during halftime in Paderborn (0:1) due to a slight issue with his calf.
Coach Steffen Baumgart (52) received word from Schonlau about the calf strain as a preventive measure.
This move was purely precautionary. After all, Schonlau has been sidelined several times this season due to his recurring calf injuries, missing 15 league matches altogether. Considering his injury history, it makes sense that he wouldn't want to push it too far.
Reports indicate that on Saturday, Schonlau participated in the team's gym sessions without any issues.
The squad has taken two days off (Sunday and Monday) and will return to training at Volkspark on Tuesday (11 a.m.). It's during this session that Schonlau will determine the condition of his calf.
There's a possibility that Schonlau might be benched for the final match against 1. FC Nürnberg on Sunday (19.5.).
