Details about the cracks in the cage. - The stakes are high at UFC 302!

This coming Sunday night, Poirier makes a bold move and challenges for the UFC lightweight title. His opponent, the undefeated Islam Makhachev, has managed to remain unbeaten for nearly eight years.

Poirier is full of confidence before the fight, believing that a well-placed shot to Makhachev's chin will knock him down. "He might not believe it, he might need to be positive and confident," Poirier says. "But if you don't think I stand a chance to win, then you're deceiving yourself."

Before, Poirier has gone after UFC gold on two separate occasions, but has come up short each time. But he recently caused a stir with a devastating knockout over Shooting Star Benoit Saint Denis.

For Poirier, it's clear as day: "Over the years, I've realized that the media, my opponents, their coaches, and the critics don't have any impact. It all comes down to me. I'm the one who can make it happen."

Champion Makhachev is the only professional blemish on his record, and has remained unbeaten since eight years ago. He claimed the championship in October 2022.

Makhachev is nonchalant about his chances against Poirier, stating, "To be honest, my style is not great against his. He can knock out some strikers and is one of the best strikers in the sport. However, we're not strikers. Our skills are on a different level."
