Premium lodging for famous individuals. - The Regent Hotel in Berlin must shut down for various reasons.
When visiting the capital, stars such as The Stones and Madonna along with other Hollywood celebrities will need to find temporary accommodation. The Regent Hotel will be shutting its doors for good by the end of the year. According to a statement released by the hotel's operator, the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the decision not to renew the lease was mutually agreed upon.
Apparently, Gendarmenmarkt, which was built in 1996, is not performing well.
"Staffing in the industry is a significant issue"
The hotel property has been owned by international investment company Blackstone Group for the past three years. While reports of an allegedly sharp rent hike are inaccurate, it's true that a significant renovation is planned for the building. Consequently, it will be closed for several months starting January 2025. The Regent has seen minimal to no investment in its upkeep for approximately two decades.
Blackstone Group's assurance: "The hotel will stay open." A decision about the future operator, however, remains undecided.
