For the first time, he whistles the tune. - The referee for the upcoming cup final has been declared.
Choice made!
The selection of Dankert to officiate the cup final is a significant achievement in his career, marking the first time he will take on this prestigious role.
The reason behind the decision, according to DFB referee head Lutz Michael Fröhlich, is that Dankert is "an experienced and globally recognized referee who delivered a fantastic season and consequently totally merits this final."
Since 2008, Dankert has been a DFB referee and has been overseeing Bundesliga matches since 2012. He was also acknowledged as a FIFA referee in 2014. Hailing from Rostock, Dankert has been part of 160 Bundesliga games and 94 2nd division fixtures.
Dankert will now be in charge of the DFB Cup final between Leverkusen and Kaiserslautern. As German league champions, Bayer is the firm favorite in this battle against a second-division team. Kaiserslautern barely managed to stay in the Bundesliga 2 on matchday 33, while Leverkusen boasts an unbeaten run of 50 competitive games.
