Due to the numerous injuries? - The reasoning behind Bayern's overhaul of their training facility.
After finishing their first season without winning a championship in 12 years, Bayern Munich has made significant changes to one of their two training grounds. They brought in heavy machinery to renovate the area.
This move has created much curiosity among frequent visitors of the Saebener Strasse. Could these renovations have something to do with the numerous muscle injuries Bayern experienced during the 2023/24 season, amounting to 25 in total?
A hypothesis that arose during the time of Pep Guardiola's reign (who coached the team from 2013 to 2016) suggested that the use of a mix of natural grass and artificial fibers might be causing these injuries. This hybrid grass was eventually taken out.
Are Bayern going back to using a natural substrate instead of the hybrid grass?
Context: The natural part of the grass needs to be removed and replanted every year to make sure it doesn't cover the artificial fibers. If this doesn't occur, the hybrid effect won't work, ensuring the pitch can withstand more pressure. The lawn should be in excellent shape by July 15th when the preparation for the next season begins following this week's sowing.
At the main training field, where they also used hybrid grass, overhauling it wasn't necessary. This hybrid system is different from the one used at the renovated pitch.
