The New Yorker wins $10 million lottery jackpot twice in a row
Wayne Murray defied the odds to pull off a huge win after winning the $10 million Lottery Jackpot. The Brooklyn, New York, resident's win is even bigger as it's his second win in two consecutive years.
Murray recently purchased two New York Lottery 200X scratch-off tickets at his favorite store, an H&A Gas & Convenience store in Brooklyn. Murray was an avid lottery player who invested $30 on each ticket.
One revealed a $10 million bonus. After opting to take a lump sum and turn over his share to the state, Murray walked away with $6,122,400.
Double Charm
Murray got lucky for the first time in 2022 when he won $10 million on a black titanium scratch card. However, that didn't stop him from buying instant win tickets and he did so more often.
Hassan Nabil, the store employee who doubled Murray's fortune and was a witness to both victories, described Murray as a "friendly" and familiar face. He says last year's win hasn't changed him and he's keeping a low profile.
That's an understatement, as Murray's windfall remains a closely guarded secret from some of his closest confidants. One of Murray's neighbours, Constance Bryans, expressed surprise after learning of the two wins. She told the New York Post she was unaware of his preliminary results last year until asked to comment after the latest windfall.
The New York Post quoted New York Lottery officials as saying that the odds of the black titanium jackpot were 1 in 3.53 million. The odds of 200X are 1 in 3.64 million.
While winning the lottery two years ago is a clear sign of good luck, Murray has been on a roll lately. The news outlet added that he lives in a house he inherited free of charge from relatives in 2021. He lived there for decades.
EuroMillions offers the biggest jackpots
There is always an extra chance to become a millionaire instantly, for example with the EuroMillions lottery. Today's draw offers a historic jackpot of €240 million ($251.77 million).
This is the biggest win since France, Spain and the UK collaborated to create the lottery in 2004. The EuroMillions family expanded later that year to include Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Sweden, and has since welcomed many other participating countries.
To win the jackpot, players must match five numbers and two additional Lucky Star numbers. The draws, which take place every Tuesday and Friday, create great anticipation. Each ticket sells for €2.50 ($2.69), giving participants the chance to share in the huge prize.
Tonight's top prize beat the previous record of €230 million ($247 million). Last July, a single ticket holder won the award.
For those who can't play EuroMillions tonight, there's also the Super Millions. If someone picks the seven winning numbers correctly, they will take home the jackpot of $395 million.
Players can also consider Powerball, with the next drawing taking place on Saturday. The top prize rose from $435 million to $468 million Wednesday because no one matched the correct number.
