Educational institutions - The minister remarks that excellence competitions boost universities' attractiveness.
In a statement to the German Press Agency in Hanover, Lower Saxony's Science Minister Falko Mohrs emphasized the significant impact of universities of distinction on the state's federal territory. He highlighted the importance of the Excellence Competition in boosting the global competitiveness of universities, stating, "Profiles are fortified, and the universities gain luminescence." Mohrs is a member of the SPD party.
The aim of the Excellence Strategy, launched by both the federal government and the regional authorities, is to bolster Germany as a leader in science and elevate its international standing. Clusters of excellence are designed to provide funding for research fields that are recognized as internationally competitive. Each cluster is awarded between three and ten million euros in annual support from the federal government and its respective state. A verdict on the financing is projected for May 2023.
Mohrs reported that six of these clusters in Lower Saxony will need to submit requests for renewal by August. Furthermore, two novel contentions that passed the first stage are also in the works. The University of Oldenburg collaborates with the University of Bremen in a cluster of excellence, according to Mohrs, resulting in a collective conclave of nine of these clusters the state acknowledges and backs. Mohrs expressed his belief that there's tremendous dedication among the scholars and researchers in all nine clusters, affirming that they're "very strong."
