Plot uncovered for assailant to attack prominent American official. - The man who assaulted Pelosi should be incarcerated for three decades.
The courts in California sentenced Canadian David DePape (44) to a jail term after he was found guilty of attacking Paul Pelosi and attempting to abduct Nancy Pelosi in November 2023.
DePape, a Canadian resident illegally living in the USA, broke into the home of Nancy Pelosi, who was then the Speaker of the US House of Representatives in San Francisco, California, in October 2022. His aim was to target the high-ranking politician, but Pelosi was in Washington at that time.

When he encountered Pelosi's husband Paul (82) instead, DePape demanded, "Where's Nancy? Where's Nancy?" A heated argument followed, resulting in DePape assaulting Paul with a hammer. During the attack, he told police that he intended to capture Nancy and fracture her kneecaps.
The incident was captured by a police officer's body cam recording. Thankfully, Paul Pelosi survived the assault.
The prosecutor's office had pushed for a jail sentence of 40 years from the San Francisco court. Before the ruling, Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to the judge asking for a "very long" sentencing, as reported by AFP.
This incident, which occurred right before the midterm congressional elections in November 2022, sparked debates in Washington. Nancy Pelosi, a prominent Democratic figure and one of the most influential politicians in the country at the time, held the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives and was the third highest office holder in the US. tp/afp
