The Magdeburg masterpiece was that.

Imagination is necessary not to be able to accomplish that: The 30:28 (17:13) victory over SC DHfK Leipzig was SC Magdeburg's greatest achievement.

Magnusson's wild display - The Magdeburg masterpiece was that.

In two remaining matches, SCM boasts a four-point lead and a massive 84-goal advantage over Fuchse Berlin. The outcome appears certain with nothing left to fight for.

Amusing: Approaching the match, nobody at Magdeburg dared whisper the C-word - "championship." Lukas Mertens, SCM's left winger, acknowledged the gravity of the situation, "Everyone's cognizant of the magnitude of this occasion." After clinching the World Cup and the DHB Cup, it's their third title of the year. The team is still alive in the Champions League Final4.

Yet: Uneasy beginnings for both sides. Each misplaced pass slipped through their fingers. The predictable upshot: 1-1 just five minutes in. Then, however, the initial excitement arrived. Tim Hornke, one of SCM's players, hit Saeveras, Leipzig's keeper, in the face with a shot, earning a two-minute penalty. The audience erupted with rage. An outburst ensued when Luca Witzke, a Leipzig player, hit the deck. "Amateurs off!" retorted the assemblage.

A remarkable stand of solidarity prior: Just before noon, approximately 1,000 Magdeburg fans gathered at Magdeburg Cathedral for a fan procession.

Gisli Kristjansson, previously injured against Balingen, graced the squad again. He found the net at 5:5 and Mertens swiftly added another, giving SCM an early edge. The favorite piled on the goals, withscoring repeatedly while Leipzig misfired against Hernandez, their keeper, with seven saves in the first half.

Günther, Leipzig's lead, was disconcerted at the break. "We're squandering too many opportunities," he lamented. Wieland Schmidt, a 1980 Olympic handball champion with East Germany, cautioned SCM, "You cannot rule out Leipzig."

Relatedly: Gebala, Leipzig's attacker, found the net once more to reduce the deficit to 19-18 (39). Leipzig persisted until the game's latter stages, but was no match for the astonishing performance by Omar Ingi Magnusson. The Icelander sunk a whopping 16 goals, including one exquisitely stunning shot, making it 28-25. With Magdeburg leading in regular time, the winning pass needed to be made. Magnusson converted it with a penalty, flawlessly performed.

Happily, the audience cheered: "The German Championship will only be taken by SCM." They spoke the truth.
