The live broadcast is worth US$270 million! Louisiana casino hotel breaks ground in Bossier City
Built on site! The Louisiana Hotel and Casino in Bossier City has officially opened.
On Wednesday, Cordish Companies celebrated the groundbreaking of the first land-based casino in the Shreveport-Bossier City Market. This fall, Cordish purchased the shuttered riverboat and hotel Diamond Jacks from Foundation Gaming for an undisclosed price.
The $270 million renovation will create a new 500,000-square-foot brick-and-mortar casino with more than 1,000 slot machines and 40 live dealer tables. The hotel is undergoing major renovations to create an upscale hotel with 550 rooms, a resort pool and fitness center.
Cordish is also building a 25,000-square-foot multi-purpose event center and 30,000-square-foot dining facility. A parking lot is also planned.
Cordish operates Live! Hanover Maryland Casino and Hotel, Live! Philadelphia Casino Hotel and Live! Casino Pittsburgh are in the suburb of Westmoreland.
Cordish First
Cordish has become one of the most optimistic game developers in the country in recent years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company opened two casinos in Pennsylvania through Live! Pittsburgh will open in November 2020, Live! in Philadelphia in early 2021.
Cordish has been as active as other major casino companies post-COVID. The company is interested in building commercial casinos in North Carolina, Virginia and Texas. Although none of those states have produced gaming programs, Cordish has found a new market to expand into through Louisiana.
The company’s redevelopment of Diamond Jacks is also a first for Cordish, as the hotel, gaming and mixed-use property developer has never renovated a closed casino to breathe new life into it.
live! The Casino & Hotel Louisiana is built on the Red River across from Shreveport. The property is about 20 miles from the Texas border and about 40 miles from Arkansas.
Cordish has demolished the former Diamond Jacks riverboat casino.
Bossier City Revival
Diamond Jacks' former owner, Peninsula Pacific Entertainment, tried unsuccessfully to move its Louisiana gaming license to a more favorable market.Ronnie Johns, chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Commission, believes Cordish's investment will help revitalize Bossier City.
There's no question that the Shreveport-Bossier gaming market has a bright future,"Johns told USA Today this week."It's incredible to watch this happen. "
The resort will create 750 permanent jobs with an estimated annual salary, wages and tips of $34 million, or approximately $45,333 per position. Per capita income in Bossier City was $30,737 in 2022, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Cordish expects its first Louisiana casino to open in early 2025.
