Fresh details emerge in the case of the assaulted Hazel B. - The individual thought to be involved in the crime was present at the crime scene.
Starting on Wednesday, Hazel B. (39) will be testifying in front of the Braunschweig Regional Court. She was viciously assaulted, bound, and subjected to multiple rapes in her Praia da Rocha, Portugal apartment back in June 2004. The crime scene is only a 30-minute drive from the Ocean Club, where Maddie vanished in May 2007.
Notable details are being revealed during this trial in Lower Saxony.
Brückner's history of rape
Hazel B. had uncovered parallels to her horrific experience in stories about Brückner's previous convictions. In 2005, the prime suspect for Maddie's disappearance had savagely assaulted, bound, and raped the American Diana M. (72) in her home in Praia da Luz. The Braunschweig Regional Court sentenced him to seven years in prison for this in 2019.
Apart from Hazel B.'s testimony, another damning piece of evidence in the trial comes from two Finnish witnesses. They resided in the "Condomínio Clube Praia da Rocha III," where Hazel B. was attacked. A few months before the incident, these tourists had crossed paths with Brückner and welcomed him into their Praia da Rocha apartment.
A criminal in Portugal
Several witnesses have united in their accounts, claiming that Brückner mainly earned a living in Portugal by breaking into vacation apartments. His former partner, Michael T., claimed that Brückner would unperturbedly enter these apartments, disregarding the possibility of inhabitants sleeping inside.
Maddie McCann was asleep in her family's apartment when she went missing without a trace. Brückner, who is alleged to have raped a total of three women, is believed to be the main perpetrator of this crime. He is currently being aided by four lawyers in his defense.
The distinctive mark on the perpetrator
There is a significant detail stemming from the Hazel B. case: a striking scar on the accused's thigh that a witness recalls. In a Portuguese police report detailing the crime in June 2004, it was mentioned that the perpetrator had a "tattoo on the offender's bottom." However, Hazel B. clarified this was a mistranslation. The person responsible for her assault actually bore a cross-shaped scar or another distinct mark on his leg.
Brückner maintains that he has no such scar or visible mark on his leg. While incarcerated, he had been willing to undergo identification procedures.
