Russian payments? - The immunity of AfD politician Petr Bystron has been revoked.
An AfD politician is being investigated for allegedly receiving funds from the pro-Russian propaganda network, "Voice of Europe."
Bavarian authorities are currently searching the politician's parliamentary office and have lifted their immunity. Rumors of potential bribes from suspicious oligarchs connected to Putin have been circulating, especially since reports surfaced from Czech intelligence circles.
Petr Bystron has long denied these allegations, even maintaining to his own party leadership that "there was nothing" to these accusations. Alice Weidel (45) and Tino Chrupalla (49), the party leaders, have publicly insisted on the innocence of Bystron, yet also urged the investigating authorities to provide evidence to support these claims.
The Bundestag's approval of a search of Bystron's offices indicates that there is at least some validity to these accusations. Obtaining authorization to search the offices of MPs with immunity is an extremely difficult process.
Within the AfD, there is a sense that the party may not be eager to fully support Bystron, with one unnamed source stating, "We wouldn't really take a stand for Bystron."
