The German Poker Bracelet Championship is about to begin.

The German Poker Bundesliga is holding its annual Bracelet Championship this year, to be held on December 28th, 2018, at the Westin Hotel in Leipzig. With room for 1000 participants, nearly half of whom have already signed up, the winner will receive the league's prestigious golden champion bracelet.

The German Poker Bundesliga has hosted the DBM (German Bracelet Championship) since 2008. This competition allows players to prove their worth in various locations, from cities to countries, and compete for their respective honorary titles. Since the district level, the Poker Bundesliga Champion Bracelet is awarded as the main prize. In each league, the poker champion is determined annually. Championships are held consecutively in the different regions, and winners are listed on a ranking list for one year. The Poker Bundesliga also boasts a Hall of Fame that displays the names of all past champions.

Over a decade-long tradition in jeopardy

The P-BL (Poker Bundesliga) is a well-established event, with ten tournaments held since 2008 and an eleventh in the making. This success is likely due to the high level of interest from participants. Dr. Klaus Dietze, the new Poker Bundesliga Director and Managing Director of MSM Sportmarketing GmbH, has been dealing with attempts to revoke the tournament's ban in Leipzig. This follows reports of an internal audit revealing concerns that the tournament permit was not legally obtained. This could lead to the cancelation of the Poker Bundesliga's trade license. Dr. Dietze and his lawyer are preparing a legal challenge to resist this potential ban.

"We've always adhered to the law. The championships have been an integral part of the event calendar for years. Poker players, their families, and friends would likely never have visited Leipzig without our tournament, especially during its slowest season for hotel turnover. Poker has become an economic factor for the city." - Dr. Klaus Dietze

Few people outside the poker world would be aware of Dietze's involvement in managing VfB Leipzig and the Lausitzer Füchse before his retirement. After facing significant health issues, including slipped discs and heart attacks, he decided to dedicate his time to playing cards and working to improve the reputation of poker. His commitment has led to the game being recognized as a "game of another kind," a decision still upheld in the courts today.

The opportunity for everyone to win

Dr. Jürgen Dietze emphasized the unique aspect of the DBM, noting that unlike in Las Vegas, where tournament fees can reach $10,000 with winnings of $8 million, the German Championship offers the chance to win the golden championship bracelet for just €50.

"In our well-prepared German Championships in Leipzig, players like you and me can experience a taste of Las Vegas for two days. The only significant difference being that the entry fee is much less expensive and instead of cash prizes, we're fighting for honor and fame and non-cash prizes." - Dr. Klaus Dietze

This year's DBM 2018 will feature two tournament heats (preliminary rounds) in freeze-out mode. Players will start in one of these heats and cannot participate in both. The final table will combine both fields on the second day, leading to the German Nine being played, and ultimately, deciding which player will take home the championship. In addition to the champion bonus and ranking list bonus (if available), each player is given a standard nationwide starting stack of 30,000 chips with which to enter the tournament. When the final winner is declared at the end of the two tournament days, they'll receive the golden championship bracelet, adorned with 4 diamonds, 4 rubies, and 4 sapphires. This bracelet is awarded to Europe's champion, chosen annually in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, during the European Poker Sports Championship. Here, amateur players meet annually at the King's Hotel to contest this title.
