Intentional Blaze in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - The first forest fire occurs this season.
The forest offices in Radelübbe, Jasnitz, Neubrandenburg, and Torgelow in the east and west of the state are now at level 4. In areas with a high fire risk, open fires and embers, as well as anything else that could potentially cause a fire, are forbidden in the forest.
A recent forest fire that occurred north-east of Altentreptow in the Mecklenburg Lake District highlights the current threat.
15,000 euros worth of damage
The district forester from the state forestry department reported around 1000 square meters of underbrush burned east of the village of Kölln, in the municipality of Spantekow.
The police estimate the damage to be approximately 15,000 euros. The investigation department is working to determine the exact cause of the fire, with current suspicions pointing towards arson.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the extinguishing efforts. Out of the 63 firefighters who responded, 36 were from Altentreptow, 21 came from Werder/Kölln, and 6 from Grapzow fire departments.
