Young female endures burns during bath time. - The father of 2-year-old Sophie has been apprehended by authorities.
Recent updates in the case involving the demise of young Sophie. The child, who was neglected by her parents despite being severely scalded, perished on Sunday afternoon. The public prosecutor's office in Halle/Saale (Saxony-Anhalt) has declared that it is examining Sophie's parents (both 36) and her grandmother (63). The accusation: collective negligent homicide!
The father, André G., was detained on Wednesday morning. The cause of detention: danger of fleeing!
Autopsy showed widespread skin scalding
"The accused are charged with not having taken action to rescue the girl - while being cognizant of her life-threatening injuries," revealed the authorities.
At the time of her passing, grandmother Kirstin G. (63) was babysitting Sophie and applied curd cheese to her burns in an unprofessional manner. The parents had gone gathering bugs with the other two children (1, 4) in Halle an der Saale.
That's why the parents delayed calling for medical assistance
According to the family, there's a cause why they didn't seek emergency medical care beforehand: a previous incident in June 2023 had occurred. At that time, André had accidentally dropped Sophie into the bathtub. The child fractured a rib and hurt her thigh. "Because of this - and due to me having a previous drug habit - they took the children away from us for six weeks and placed them in a foster home which we wished to avoid this time," sobs the father, who has apparently been clean for a year.
Agents from the Central Criminal Investigation Department (Zentrale Kriminalpolizei) searched the family's residence on Wednesday. The family's two other children are under state care.
