Suspect at large following machete assault in Leipzig - The families have come to a mutual resolution over the matter.
A street in Germany that's causing terror is filled with small shops. Arabic eateries, Turkish lettering, and Kurdish music can be found. In front of a stand, a couple of guys observe as cops record a bike crash.
Leipzig residents' thoughts
When questionedabout the Sunday crime, a 40-year-old guy who belongs to the group expresses a lack of comprehension: "The police and media just overly exaggerate this again." The fact that a man hacked another man with a machete while the sun was high up in the sky doesn't merit any attention from him. Because it's nothing out of the ordinary in this place? The machete might have a significant impact here .
"They're all relatives," he asserts. "Two young adults got in a quarrel and that was it. The families have already come to an agreement by settling the matter," the Kurd says.
There are many Kurds from Turkey on this street, which forms the majority of shopkeepers. In Eisenbahnstraße, they are the most common presence.
A petty disagreement was said to lead to a massive clash
Just a few meters away, a kebab shop owner shares his account. He is reluctant to talk at first. But then he says: "It wasn't about drugs or money, as some people are purporting. It was a small spat that quickly intensified."
According to him, after a verbal disagreement, one man hit another on the head with a bottle. People who knew both were alerted, and the events shown in the video followed.
One wonders what would've happened if it was something more significant.
It appears that many people are too afraid to speak up here. Omertà seems to be in place in Eisenbahnstraße, similar to the confidentiality that Italian mafia members are obligated to uphold.
The matter was sorted out in the families
An elderly man stands in front of a barber shop. Youngsters quickly surround him; his word seems to hold authority here. He claims: "The families resolved the issue yesterday. The two men that sparked the fight have left and are now on the run."
Where are they headed? He won't disclose that. He won't share it with the press or the police.
