Before, there's been shooting assistance. - The extraordinary Hansa rescue operations.
The miraculous day of Bochum (29.05.1999): On the 34th Bundesliga matchday, a remarkable game unfolded, renowned to this day. Rostock needed to win against Bochum, who had been relegated, to avoid slipping into the same fate. But then this happened: VfL scored in the 73rd minute, bringing the score to 2:1, yet it wasn't enough for Rostock. Just a few minutes later, in the 77th, Victor Agali evened the score at 2:2. The pivotal moment in this showdown, though, came when Oliver Neuville crossed from the right, finding Slawomir Majak, who scored an impressive 3:2 goal by heading the ball through the Bochum goalkeeper Ernst's legs. Rostock fan Peter Wibran (55) who witnessed this can't help but recall, "It was the best moment of my time in Rostock." Sentimentally taking a trip back, Rostock recreated "The Miracle of Bochum" in 2019, receiving an enthusiastic response from their fans.
The deliverance at Schalke (20.05.2000): Much like in the preceding season, Hansa battled hard to stay afloat in the Bundesliga relegation battle. Despite less-than-stellar performance and a jaw-dropping count of 14 draws, the club stuck with coach Zachhuber until the end. The persistence paid off - with a 2:0 triumph over FC Schalke, Hansa managed to stay in the league, aided by goals from Agali and Brand.
The rescue through external aid (23.05.2015): With only one matchday left in the 3rd division, Hansa, ranked 17th, were in a perilous position. Headed to Dresden with the hopes of winning to avoid relegation, Hansa suffered a 2:1 defeat (goal: Ikeng). As Erfurt pummeled Unterhaching 1:0, relief came with a grain of salt as Hansa escaped relegation for the first time. To express gratitude, a Hansa benefactor gifted Erfurt with a short respite from their sporting and financial challenges to celebrate their support.
Rescuing Hansa from the jaws of relegation
Hansa no longer dictate their own destiny on the final matchday, relying on a win against Paderborn to avoid the relegation play-offs. While Wiesbaden must not win against St. Pauli, Hansa could still triumph with a draw, with Wiesbaden having a better goal-difference. If Wehen beats St. Pauli, Hansa's fate would be sealed for relegation.
