Revised plans and concealed wedding details - The dramatic surge of St. Pauli's popularity.
During the 72nd minute - as St. Pauli had a 3:1 advantage over Osnabrück and their promotion was secure - defense leader Eric Smith was replaced by David Nemeth.
Instead of celebrating, Smith was enraged and confronted coach Fabian Hürzeler, cursing and lashing out, even physically touching the coach.
But what was driving Smith's anger? He admitted, "I didn't want to leave the field and reacted more aggressively than I should have. I immediately apologized to the coach."
Hürzeler remained calm, stating, "That's just typical Eric Smith. It shows how dedicated the players are, wanting to push forward. After the game, Smith expressed his feelings by saying, 'I love you.' We'll probably discuss it further, but these emotions are what make this club special."
There was also romance in the air between captain Jackson Irvine and his girlfriend Jemima after the final whistle. Irvine expressed his excitement over the promotion, "It doesn't get any better than this." Then he revealed, "It'll be even better in two days! We're getting married then." One can only hope Irvine's injury heals in time for the celebration.
