At last, it's confirmed. - The DFB satisfies fans' longstanding desire.
Upcoming matches against Ukraine (June 3) and Greece (June 7), "Major Tom (Coming Home)" by Peter Schilling will be the goal anthem for the German national team. This replaces "Kernkraft 400" by Zombie Nation which has been the anthem since 2019. It was a fan request as signified by a petition with nearly 70,000 signatures.
In preparation for the Netherlands friendly match, DFB played the song during the warm-up, and pictures of Thomas Mueller passionately singing it circulated on social media. Even he admits it's an ideal anthem for any party, whether it's wild and wet or just in a chair. When asked if he knew the lyrics, Mueller replied, "Yes, it's a fantastic song to sing along to - even while standing up, if that's the case."
The song's debut occurred during the 1-0 win against the Netherlands by Maximilian Mittelstädt (11). Now, the song will be played for each goal scored. If Germany's performance is impressive...
The team enjoys the song. Earlier this week, they gathered for team-building activities with masked officers from Thuringia and Rhineland-Palatinate, and Peter Schilling already announced Mittelstädt's invitation to the European Championship in Stuttgart.
